Re-established in 2009, the
Ellas Dancers uphold Hellenic (Greek) traditions through dance. The
Ellas Dancers perform dances from every region of Greece, including
regions of mainland Greece, the Greek islands, Asia Minor, Pontos, and
Cyprus. In addition to teaching dance steps and style, we also aim
educate dancers on the history behind the dances as well as the history
of the costumes and their meanings in relation to Greek culture. The
Ellas Dancers are fortunate to have talented instructors and dancers
that teach dances to various schools and churches throughout the
Chicago-land area.
As a not-for-profit organization, we do not have an
annual membership fee, nor do we charge for performances. However we do
encourage and accept donations. We welcome everyone, experienced or
inexperienced, to join our group; whether you would like to perform or
just have fun and exercise. Practices are held every Saturday from
6:30pm to 8:30pm (excluding days of performances, or if posted
otherwise), at the Midwest District Building of the Pan-Arcadian
Federation, 880 N York St, in Elmhurst Illinois. We accept
dancers in the adult performing group from 15 to 40 years of age, and
we have a youth group that consists of children from roughly 10 to 14
years of age. If you are interested in any of these programs please
feel free to contact us. Thank you for visiting.
