(Morea): Oldest part of modern Greece where, in 1821, the struggle
began to create a free state. Though many regional dances have
disappeared, the Kalamatianos and Tsamikos, originally associated with
the Morea, remain very popular throughout most of Greece. Most
interesting folklore areas are Mani, for the mirologia (laments) sung
at times of death and Tsakonia for its Tsakonikos dance.
